Another poll-ish type thing, but I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] 5000questionsur (in private entries for now, I'll unlock and link everything once I'm done to minimize spam), where I came across one question that I thought was really interesting. So please tell me:

If someone wanted to understand you, what book could they read that would help?

And, if you want, what movie and what song/album would help?

My book would be "Stone Butch Blues" by Leslie Feinberg, hands down. I only read it for the first time last year, and I wish I had earlier, because it pretty much changed my life. I overidentify with the protagonist way too much, even though we don't have all that much in common when it comes down to it, and it gave me so much hope. (It's also a great look into the society of the post-war US and the early queer movement, by the way, and everyone should read it.)

Matt Ruff's "Sewer, Gas and Electrics - The Public Works Trilogy" helps, too - if you love that book as much as I do, you probably get what kind of person I am. ;)

As for the movies, mix "Shortbus" and "AmeliƩ" and you pretty much got it. I can never decide on one single song to describe my soul, but Rilo Kiley's "The Absense of God" has long been my theme song and still mostly applies.
