Local politics make me headdesk
Apr. 26th, 2008 02:09 pmSo, tomorrow there is a plebiscite on whether to keep air traffic at Tempelhof airport, as opposed to closing it down in favour of the international airport at Schönefeld, turning the area into a leisure park kind of thing. Conservative parties are for it, ostensibly because it's a historical site and whatnot (who cares that there are plans of making it into a museum, thus rendering the argument void), the governing parties are for closing it, since there's barely any traffic there anyway, and it's one of the terms on which Schönefeld was allowed to be turned into an international airport.
Now, the "Bild", Germany's biggest tabloid, ran a hilarious list of 100 "reasons" why Tempelhof should stay open for air traffic, and I felt the overwhelming need to comment on it. I was going to do it in German, since this is not likely anything that anyone out of Berlin cares about, but the idiocy was too good not to share with the rest of the world, and I like translating.
( Some of the 100 best arguments, if by 'best' you mean 'ahahaha, are you kidding me?' )
"Be Tempelhof. Be Berlin."
"Mommy, when I grow up, can I be an airport?" Can't argue with that kind of reasoning.
