Pride Parade 2007

So, Pride parade was... wet. Wet, but fun!
The weather had been a bit suspicious all morning, but we went anyway - and the rain started promptly when the parade reached the spot on Ku'damm where we were standing. We were soaked through after a few minutes, as in: my shirt was dripping (and the "queer" that I had cut out from self-adherent foil and decorated it with came off :( ), hair colour was running down my face (apparently I hadn't rinsed it properly the night before), and even my bra and panties were drenched in the end. Yet everyone was pretty happy and smiley, and dancing in the rain is fun! I did sort of envy the rubber people, though, those outfits would have been perfect in that weather.

Me, looking silly and like a drowned rat, but with my queer still intact.
(I'd post more post-rain photos, but I'm not sure how everyone feels about having their unflattering pics put up on the internet. ;) So there might be more later, once I've asked.)
It cleared up halfway through, so we got to see some quite awesome costumes and pretty half.naked people. :)) No, seriously, there were some really nicely dressed people, although way fewer awesome t-shirt slogans than last year. They also threw some seriously random stuff this year, amongst all the flyers, stickers and some condoms: I got adhesive tattoos, Digimon stickers (?!?), an inflatable picture frame and a pretty awesome badge saying "porno police".

For some reason, the overall motive this year was supposed to be superheroes.

Gay emus?

No idea what's up with the warped perspective here. Notice the Gedächtniskirche in the background.

Shortly before the end it started raining for real again, even worse than before, and this time most people fled into the stores. Personally, I figured I was already wet, so why bother? Standing in pouring rain can be quite fun, and
nebulein actually joined me after we had left our bags with the others for safekeeping.
We were really, really glad to get home afterwards, though. Everyone was wet, tired and hungry, so we had some pizza, randomly watched 3x09 of Queer as Folk, Dana and me both took a nap, ... and then suddenly it was 7 p.m., which was the time we had apparently planned to meet up with Shiva for the Midsummer renfaire.
The fair turned out to be rather small, but really nicely set up. Pretty stalls actually made up to look rustic and individual (unlike so many other faires I've seen) and a venue that fit well - part of a small island in the Spree (that I just learned is actually called "Insel der Jugend", i.e. "Island of Youth"), on the side of a tower, with lots of trees. We walked around a bit, listened to the band that was playing, then got some langos and a bottle of really tasty mead and just sat at the river for a while.

Shiva and mead.

We had originally planned on staying for the party in the tower afterwards, but everyone was exhausted. So we just went back home, smoked a hookah (did I ever mention we bought one a couple of weeks ago?), and basically spent Saturday night hanging out. Good times. :)
P.S. Pics courtesy of
shivaluna. Because I had forgotten to both buy new batteries and empty the memory of my camera.
