Well, obviously not everyone in the whole world ever would have loved it, but it sounds better than "the majority of the ten people I served it to loved it". And they might not have loved it, obviously, but I'll never find out now.
Also, you don't have to understand it. ;) If I had *really* wanted to make shortbread, I'd have gone back to the store, but it was just the first thing that had been on my mind. It was way more fun to look for other recipes, I found so much stuff I want to try some time!
