Soo, that early-aired first episode. Meant to watch it with my friends tonight, but due to most of them being busy and me being insanely tired (thanks to a random nightly panic attack *kicks brain*) I just wasn't able to restrain myself saw it on my own - at least that way I was able to take notes.
(They were taken on a small piece of paperbag, though (because I'm lazy like that), so please excuse possible incoherentness.)
- Veronica solving that case in class sort of made me roll my eyes. The reason why she "solved" it so quickly made it better, but it was still somewhat sue-ish.
- I'm not quite sure what to think about the new titles. They are very, very pretty, but the new version of "We Used To Be Friends" sounds bad - all in all it's probably a more "mature" look that will take some getting used to.
- I liked the way some issues from the end of last season were resolved in passing, not through endless flashbacks - whether Keith got to go to NY and how Dick came to be in Hearst, for example.
- I love Piz already - he's so dorky and squishable and he and Wallace must totally be BFF, because they made me happy. Speaking of which, Wallace started annoying me some time in season 2, but in this episode he was back to being his fun self. Good!
- Mac. I love her so very much. ♥ ♥ ♥
- I DEMAND MORE MAC/DICK INTERACTION. Not in the sexual/shippy way, that pairing just doesn't work for me, but I want them being awkward and angsty and bitchy and maybe even making up one day.
- Speaking of Dick: YESYESYES GIVE ME MORE SCENES LIKE THE ONE WITH LOGAN IN THE END!! That is exactly what I wanted to see - how Cassidy's death affects Dick and him FINALLY breaking and hopefully getting some sort of depth and ACTUAL BFF-NESS WITH LOGAN, because that relationship seriously needs some work, from what we have seen of it in the first seasons. And I might never really come to like Dick, but he has potential and I very much hope they're going to do something with it. I NEED ANGSTY GAPFILLERS WITH LATE-NIGHT GUYTALK AND BONDING OVER THEIR RESPECTIVE EMO-NESS AND POSSIBLY ENDING IN HUGS AND TEARS. Because I'm a sucker for broken tough boys.
- Speaking of tough guys - I want my Weevil. Where is my Weevil? :(
- I loved the little hints at the characters' fucked up minds throughout the episode - Logan feeling guilty about Cassidy's death, Veronica not being able to say why she does what she does, Mac and her shrink, Dick coping by being even more of an asshole. Because seriously, those kids can't be right in the head after all they've been through, and I want them to explore that more than they did in the last seasons.
- Veronica and Logan being lovey-dovey was actually nice. I still prefer them snarking at each other, no matter how much I ship them - but I still couldn't help an "Awww!" at Logan giving her the key-card.
- The Keith storyline didn't really grip me during the episode, but WHOA THAT ENDING!! So Kendall's dead? And what exactly was up with that guy, he works with Liam or did I mishear something? That's going to make an interesting storyarc. :)
- I never really did before, but I got distinct Veronica/Mac vibes. Will still not break from Veronica/Lilly as my femslashy OTP, though.
- Other things that made me happy: V/L sex, even if we didn't actually get to see it. Sachs - I heart him. Veronica's tattoo-shirt - I want! The digs at Colin Farrel. Mac being all into the music at the Unwashed show. Piz saying he's "a lover, not a fighter" *grins at gio* Logan being strangely hot while brushing his teeth.
- And damn, the ending. That was seriously chilling. I don't even have words, really.
All in all this definitely feels truer to season one than season two, which is good - I want less big mysteries with 283478457 lifes at stake and enough red herrings to feed a small third world country, and more character-interaction and plots and mysteries that feel life-like. Conclusion: YAY FOR SEASON THREE!!
(P.S. I am totally unspoiled for this season and intend on staying that way, ok? :X)
And totally unrelated: A happy, happy birthday to the fabulous
susanderavish!! :X
