First of all, there's a queer friending meme going on. I don't remember there ever being one of those before, so yay!
Secondly, I saw Dufus and Amy Rude yesterday and it was pretty awesome.
kaoru_is_here and I got to the Schokoladen at half past eight or so, thinking the concert would start at nine, only to learn that the bar opened at nine. So we took a walk around the block, then went back and had a beer while waiting for the show to begin, which it did past ten. :| It was worth the wait, though. The venue was pretty perfect, all plushy and kitschy with red roses on the wallpaper and fake chandeliers, and everyone just sat down on the floor or makeshift stands out of tables and benches.
Amy Rude played first, and she was lovely. Great voice, very atmospheric songs, and she has the kind of rough charisma that instantly draws me to someone. I was also pretty amused be her band - the bassist looked like he would break into tears any second, while the drummer had this silly happy grin while banging away with closed eyes. Jonas and I both got her album afterwards, because we really enjoyed her music. Check her out if you're into folk, country or pretty singer-songwriter type stuff!
Then Dufus came on, just Seth without any band. And seriously, I don't even listen to them all that much, but that guy is amazing. I have never experienced anyone who can scream and make weird sounds and yet have his voice sound so good, and when he just sang normally I really got a bit hearteyed, to be honest. He somehow managed to break three strings during his set, so he sang (and rapped!) some things without any instrumentation, and it was brilliant. He has fabulous lyrics and a great stage presence (I for one barely noticed the lack of a band). At some point he made the audience do parts of a song, and while most of the hipsters didn't seem too enthusiastic, there were some cute exchanges like:
Seth: "So, this side, you're the firemen."
Person from the audience: "Can we call that firefighters?"
Sandra: *thinking* 'Hi, marry me!'
Seth: "You can be firefighters, or people who fight fire, or throwers of water on fire... Whatever you want."
And lines like "Now, you're really dopey firemen, so you go like 'fire, maaaaan'" and "You're not just firemen, you're also perverts."
It was pretty silly, but fun. I was home late-ish and am a bit tired now, but it was absolutely worth it!
You know what I need? A more generic music icon. I miss my Photoshop, why can't I have it at work? :(

Date: 2008-07-11 10:14 am (UTC)Oh, btw. I measured the bed yesterday, but forgot to write you an email. *facepalm* Anyway, you were right, it *does* fit. :D So yeah, I'd like to have it, just need to find a way of transporting it. Jonas said you wanted to send him pics of the couch and didn't yet, so he can't decide whether he'd take it (and could thus share a Robbe with me).
